Maib net profit reaches EUR 51.1 million in the first half of the year
Maib, the largest commercial bank in Moldova, in which the leading Baltic asset management group Invalda INVL is one of the shareholders, reported unaudited net profit of MDL 1,027.7 million (EUR 51.1 million) for the first half of this year, up 24.1% compared to the first half of last year.

During the January–June period, the bank’s net interest income reached MDL 1.7 billion (EUR 84 million), an increase of 18.4% compared to the first half of 2025. Net fee and commission income declined by 7% year-on-year to MDL 237 million (EUR 11.8 million), while other income decreased by 3.5% to MDL 420.6 million (EUR 20.9 million).
At the end of June, the bank’s loan portfolio amounted to MDL 43 billion (EUR 2.1 billion), representing a 22.7% increase compared to a year earlier. Business lending grew by 16.6% year-on-year, while the retail loan portfolio expanded by 31.4%.
At the end of the first half of the year, maib’s customer deposits totaled MDL 54.9 billion (EUR 2.7 billion), up by 13.6% compared to the same period last year. Deposits from corporate clients increased by 1%, small and medium-sized enterprises by 10.7%, and retail customers by 19.1%.
The bank’s return on equity (ROE) for the first half of the year stood at 21%, compared with 20.4% a year earlier.
As of the end of June 2026, maib’s total assets amounted to MDL 73.1 billion (EUR 3.6 billion), an increase of 16% year-on-year. The bank’s capital adequacy ratio stood at 22.1%, while its liquidity ratio reached 247.1%.
In July this year, maib was named Best Bank and Best Retail Bank in Moldova at the prestigious Euromoney Awards for Excellence 2026. This marks the third time that Euromoney has recognised maib as the country’s Best Bank.
Last month, investor and entrepreneur Vasile Tofan stepped down from maib’s Supervisory Board after being appointed Prime Minister of Moldova. His nomination was proposed by President Maia Sandu and approved by the governing Party of Action and Solidarity. The maib Supervisory Board, chaired by Vytautas Plunksnis, consists of seven members.
Last year, maib reported audited net profit of MDL 1.99 billion (EUR 101.8 million), an increase of 41% compared to 2024.
