Road and bridge construction company Kauno Tiltai belonging to the Lithuanian group of companies “Tiltra Group” operating in the sphere of communications infrastructure is about to complete the repairs of Raudondvario Bridge in Kaunas. As of this Tuesday, restrictions will no longer be applied to the traffic along this bridge, while the remaining works, such as reinforcements of slopes, marking of carriageway, installation of metal enclosures and tidying up of surroundings, will be completed during June.
In the course of repairs, the bridge over the Nevezis River was broadened and currently its width is 14.6 meters (before repairs – 9 meters). A sidewalk and a bicycle path were also laid over the river as a part of the bridge.
According to the Technical Director of Kauno Tiltai, Vitalijus Popovas, the schedule of works has always been very tight “According to the schedule, we had to build a new bridge and to demolish the span of the old one as well as to maintain the continuity of traffic throughout the process” – told V. Popovas.
For the repairs of the bridge over Nevezis, 11 228 bolts were used as well as 364.67 tons of metal for the bearing girders of the bridge and 48 thrust bearings. Monolith structures of the bridge contain 89 tons of reinforcement net, representing more than 100 kilometers of reinforcement bars. Also, 1357 m3 (about 3000 tons) of concrete have been used for the works.
The volume of asphalt concrete from the dismantled old bridge made 84 tons, whereas that of the protective layer of concrete – 87 tons, and the bearing structures – 1404 tons.
The bridge over the River Nevėžis the repairs of which commenced in September 2008 is situated in the 8.7th kilometer of state significance road Kaunas-Jurbarkas. All the funds for the repairs of the bridge were assigned by the Lithuanian Road Administration. The total value of the project comprises about LTL 25 mil. (incl. VAT).
